The Core Istanbul, taking place concurrently with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul’s Spring/Summer 2020 season in the same venue opened its doors today. The Core Istanbul, which forms the sales dimension of the fashion week and continues to bring together local and international buyers, young fashion startups and fashion media for the last five years, will be open today and tomorrow, and provide a basis for new collaborations.

International buyers representing prestigious global retailers and showrooms including Harvey Nichols Riyadh, Studio Zeta and Rainbowwawe and many others from different cities such as London, Milan, Warsaw, Riyadh and Madrid will find the opportunity to get acquainted with Turkish designers at the two-day event.

The Core Istanbul to promote design-focused export

In line with the “All-Around Action Plan” of IHKIB, the organizer of MBFWI, The Core Istanbul plays an important role in the organization’s goal of increasing design-focused exports. IHKIB aims to increase these exports by folds as the apparel industry in Turkey, which is the sixth largest supplier worldwide and third in the EU with $17.6 billion in exports, evolves into a fashion industry. Accordingly, IHKIB emphasizes the importance of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul with respect to reinforcing the fashion and design foundation.

Mustafa Gültepe, President – IHKIB, explained the significance of the event, The Core Istanbul is a very important event for us in terms of the All-Around Working Program within the framework of the Vision Document that we implemented at İHKİB. An apparel with an average unit price of $20 per kilo can be sold at three times this price when it is branded and five times if it is a custom design, enabling geometric increase in exports due to the multiplier effect of design, fashion and brand. In line with this plan, which aspires to increase the share of high value-added designer products in exports, we bring together brands and designers with buyers in The Core Istanbul where we also aim to broaden collaboration models between brands and designers.”

The brands and designers who are showcasing their Spring/Summer 2020 collections in The Core Istanbul include Anais&Margaux Paris, Can Oker, Ceren Ocak, Eclectic Concept, Exquise, Filiarmi, IP217, Jaquette, Join Us, Karma Bleu, Kith & Kin, Lug von Siga, Mert Erkan, FUTURISTIKLOVER & Mehmet Emiroğlu, Mehmet Korkmaz, Mehtap Elaidi, Meltem Özbek, MiiN by Kadir Kılıç, Muun, Natalie Kolyozyan, Özlem Erkan, The Royal Gang, Y Plus by Yakup Biçer, ZELL and Zeynep Erdoğan.

The Core Istanbul introduces a brand new fashion experience: Meet the Talents

This season, The Core Istanbul features Meet the Talents, a space where nearly 30 designer brands will offer relevant and creative solutions to the fashion industry. Meet the Talents will also present limited-edition pieces by young and talented Turkish designers to industry professionals.

Güneş Güner, Creative Director - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, shared her thoughts on The Core Istanbul, “In this space, where you may come across young fashion startups alongside the brands and designers that present their collections in runway shows, you will find the opportunity to take a closer look at various collection pieces. The Core Istanbul also aims to become an incubator for new partnerships. This creative platform, which will host over 20 established or emerging designers and nearly 10 designer brands that offer different design solutions to the fashion industry, is enriched with a different experience this season.
