Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul Spring/Summer 2020 season took place on October 8-11, 2019 at the Zorlu Performance Arts Center, with organization by the Istanbul Ready-Made Garment and Apparel Exporters' Association (IHKIB). The event that also marked the tenth anniversary of the fashion week in Istanbul invited all stakeholders of the fashion industry to join forces and share creativity around a single fashion platform.

The designers and brands that showcased their collections in the 14th season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul included BAĞZIBAĞLI PRIVÉ X ÖZLEM ERKAN, BARBIE by ÇİĞDEM AKIN, CAN YUNUS ÇETİNKAYA, CEREN OCAK, EXQUISE, GOKHANYAVAS, HEMINGTON, JOIN US, KITH&KIN, LUG VON SIGA, MEHMET KORKMAZ, MEHTAP ELAİDİ, MEHTAP ELAİDİ X LENZING™ ECOVERO™, Mercedes-Benz presents MiiN by KADİR KILIÇ, MERT ERKAN, MURAT AYTULUM, NATALIE KOLYOZYAN, NEW GEN by İMA, NİYAZİ ERDOĞAN, ÖNDER ÖZKAN, ÖZLEM SÜER, PIONEERING DESIGNERS I FUTURISTIKLOVER - MEHMET EMİROĞLU - ŞEBNUR GÜNAY, PIONEERING DESIGNERS II EMRE PAKEL - SEYDULLAH YILMAZ, SUDI ETUZ, WRDB DB-BERDAN, Y PLUS by YAKUP BİÇER and YELDA ASLAN.

During the week, designers and designer brands presented their Spring/Summer 2020 collections and also took part in The Core Istanbul for commercial-focused engagements. With 5,000 visitors on average per day, over 20,000 visitors in total attended the runway shows and presentations throughout the fashion week.

The Core Istanbul, taking place concurrently with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul in the same venue, continues to bring together local and international buyers, young fashion startups and fashion media for the last five years, and hosted guests and participants on October 10 - 11 this season. Over 20 established or emerging designers and nearly 10 designer brands participated in The Core Istanbul to offer relevant and creative design solutions to the fashion industry. This season, The Core Istanbul featured Meet the Talents, a space where limited-edition pieces by young and talented Turkish designers were presented to industry professionals. During the two-day event, international buyers representing prestigious global retailers and showrooms including Harvey Nichols Riyadh, Studio Zeta and Rainbowwawe and many others from different cities such as London, Milan, Warsaw, Riyadh and Madrid found the opportunity to get acquainted with Turkish brands and designers.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, with the theme “Together” this season, was enriched with talks by inspiring speakers and compelling panel sessions that offered alternative takes on today's fashion industry and shed light on various fashion-related topics. The panel sessions that took place in the Sky Lounge at Zorlu PSM on October 8-9 brought together figures from different fields that are in contact with fashion industry and offered interdisciplinary perspectives and a look into the memory of fashion.

In the 14th season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, the program featured a number of seasoned named of the fashion industry alongside several talented young designers that drew significant attention. As a first this season, “Pioneering Designers”, a selection of up-and-coming designers, presented their collections in group fashion shows. Pioneering Designers I with Futuristiklover - Mehmet Emiroğlu - Şebnur Günay, and Pioneering Designers II with Emre Pakel - Seydullah Yılmaz brought the designers’ Spring/Summer 2020 collections to the MBFWI runway. Mercedes-Benz Türk, the title sponsor of the event, presents the runway show of a designer that it chooses to support. This season, Mercedes-Benz Türk supported Kadir Kılıç, the emerging designer of the Turkish fashion industry, with the “Mercedes-Benz presents Miin by Kadir Kılıç” runway show of his Spring/Summer 2020 collection.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul in numbers:

Mercedes-Benz Lounge hosted nearly 5,000 guests this season. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul transfer vehicles were on the streets of Istanbul throughout the fashion week to facilitate the guests’ transportation.

  • AliExpress, one of the official sponsors of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, welcomed visitors at its booth throughout the week with the slogan “All Stylish All Turkish” and also hosted international fashion influencers, which the company invited to promote Turkish fashion to the world. AliExpress also participated in the panel session ExpressFashion, where the rapid increase in e-exports of Turkish fashion industry and how social media facilitated this growth was discussed.
  • DHL, one of the official sponsors of the event, exhibited its “Go Green” approach, which defines the company’s goal to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Fashion illustrator Mustafa Soydan, followed closely by fashion lovers in recent times, was also at the DHL booth to rewrite the story of this event, where the heart of the fashion world beat for four days, from a creative perspective in digital medium.
  • Dyson, one of the main sponsors of the event, was backstage this year with Dyson Supersonic hairdryers used in all hair stylings. Dyson Supersonic, which helps to preserve the shine of the hair with its quick dry feature, smart heat technology and redesigned accessories, was the biggest assistant of hair stylists in the backstage of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul.
  • Mehtap Elaidi designed the “MEHTAP ELAIDI X LENZING™ ECOVERO™” capsule collection in line with the “Doğanın Renkleri Kaybolmasın” (Don't Let Nature’s Colors Fade) campaign that promoted nature-friendly LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fibers. In the presentation on Thursday, October 10 at the Seed, Elaidi’s designs were made available with the “See Now Buy Now” concept for consumers to buy using the QR codes of the garments. A part of the proceeds from the sale of the ME x LENZING™ ECOVERO™ capsule collection went to the natural and cultural heritage trainings that Bilgi Ağacı (Tree of Knowledge), the educational division of the ÇEKÜL Foundation, will conduct in October, November and December.
  • Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, held at the Zorlu Performance Arts Center for the sixth time, featured the 1200-square meter The Zone, which housed the booths of event sponsors as well as the guest entrance, plus the 300-square meter “Press Lounge” designed to offer a dedicated area for the press members to work comfortably.
  • Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul’s official hair styling sponsor L’Oréal Professionnel did the hair styling for 24 runway shows with over 100 hair dressers using L’Oréal Professionnel products.
  • M.A.C Cosmetics, an official supplier of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, did the makeup in 19 runway shows with more than 27 makeup artists who applied hundreds of products on the models throughout the week.
  • The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul team wore Brand Who-designed t-shirts in the event venue throughout the week.
  • Throughout the event, cocktails prepared with special recipes and 5,000 cans of Red Bull were served to the guests. DJ performances in The Zone entertained the visitors throughout the day.
  • Damla, an official supplier of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, served 10,00 glass bottles of Damla Water and 5,000 glass bottles of mineral water.,
  • For the seventh season, the ALEM team issued the daily MBFWI newspaper “ALEM MBFWI” that featured interviews with designers, fashion news and the latest details about the events, reaching over 20,000 readers in total.
  • The Runway area, spread on 1000 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate 672 seated guests featured a 28-meter long catwalk, and hosted 12 runway shows and 1 seminar. On the other hand, the Studio area, spread on 300 square meters, with a capacity to accommodate 280 seated or 400 standing guests hosted 10 mini runway shows. During the fashion week, five runway shows took place off site.
  • A production team of 300 managed the event area while nearly 5,000 people in total worked in various functions to ensure that the fashion week ran seamlessly.
