DREAMING OF VENICE IN THE CITY OF SEVEN HILLS
LUG VON SIGA Spring/Summer 2020 runway show in the 14th season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul took place on Friday, October 11 at 2.00 pm at the Palazzo di Venezia in Beyoğlu.
LUG VON SIGA, the designer brand that has been a staple of runways in Istanbul, celebrated its 10th anniversary with the presentation of its Spring/Summer 2020 collection, inspired by Shakespeare's immortal play, The Merchant of Venice, at the Palazzo di Venezia. Fashion designer Gül Ağış, who loves blending the figures and cultural footprints inspired by different geographies with Istanbul in her collections, previously brought Mexican influences to Istanbul with the Frida Kahlo collection and later Agatha Christie in a similar manner. In the 14th season of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, Ağış presented her collection “The Merchant of Venice in Istanbul” at the heart of the city.
On the occasion of her brand’s 10th anniversary, Gül Ağış, the founder and creative director of LUG VON SIGA, gives a nod to Italy, where she studied fashion design and lived for many years, revisiting her professional roots in a way, and brings The Merchant of Venice, written by Shakespeare, the great writer of English literature, in which the designer majored in college, to Istanbul, the city where she found her own roots.
The similar and different characteristics of both cultures are once again embodied in the brand's authentic silhouettes and fabric combinations. The designs that embrace a sense of modern romance feature vintage prints and sunflower motifs on lace broderie fabrics, reflecting the mood of the LUG VON SIGA woman. See-through and translucent finishes, embroidered taffeta and natural cotton fibers form the outlines of the collection. Crisp floral natural prints, ruffles and comfortable-looking oversized silhouettes come to life in a color palette of white, pale blue, dusty rose and black with an ever-present sense of lightness and innocence.
LUG VON SIGA runway show, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Istanbul, was choreographed by Uğurhan Akdeniz, with makeup by the professional makeup artists of Bobbi Brown, and hair styling by the L’Oréal Professionnel team. J’abotter custom designed the shoes for the collection. The runway show was styled by Mahizer Aytaş, with music by xx. The guests were taken on a sensual journey with Jo Malone London, which brought the mystical fragrances of sunflowers to the venue, Vanilin Chocolate’s authentic flavors, Nespresso’s coffee varieties that offer balanced taste and aroma profiles, and S. Pellegrino, the symbol of Italian elegance and quality.
