As Part of their AW19 Collection the brand explores the issue of double standards within the fashion industry, regarding the treating the LGBTQ people as token characters, as trophy’s or spectacles to be observed and celebrated within that world. This almost royal like admiration however isn’t something that is extended into mainstream society where in many cases LGBTQ people fill face animosity and mistreatment for merely being themselves. For their AW19 collection, DB Berdan wanted to create a safe space for their Queer family. They want every individual to feel comfortable, included but most importantly, feel safe.
The collection continues to ramp up the 90’s silhouettes and turns them into combat style ready to wear pieces, a symbolism of a coat of armour ready to fight the prejudices and negativities that may face the wearer. Key pieces this season include oversized raver pants, aluminium foil like puffa coats, pin stiped denim racer joggers, tartan trench coats and textured collage style knitted pieces. Key Fabrics and colours used this season include distressed two tones denims, raw edges and earthy tones such as burgundy, army green, light brown and contrasting the prints in neon colours. DB Berdan uses safe space symbols referencing WWII, transforming historic imagery into fabulous victories. Keeping it messy with acrylic like tie-dye prints and slogan tee’s “Fuck Ur Double Standards”. These raw slogans were printed in 100% organic cotton fabrics.
The brand’s playful style is evident across the garments as their personality is fully showcased and explored. DB Berdan continue to bring a sense of pride and freedom of speech to this collection, D is for diversity. From butch queen to femme, uniquely people will be walking down the runway. DB Berdan’s socially advanced garments embrace every part of postmodern society in passionate and spirited streetwear. The catwalk show will be styled by Kay Altamira previously at LOVE Magazine bringing chaotic synergy to DB Berdan’s identity. DB Berdan will be using shoes from PUMA TURKEY this season and elaborate face Jewellery from Inaurem and Jewellery and rubber accessories from Prong Jewellery Hair by Daniele De Angelis from TONI&GUY urban hair sculpture like hairs would be highlighting each person’s uniqueness. Makeup by Lan Nguyen-Grealis and the @lamslondon team using Kyolan creating scribbled beautiful messes continuing with the collections acrylic effect. Music by Smiley Vyrus bringing queer hip hop realness.

Deniz Berdan started her career as a fashion editor. She has concluded designing and designer consultancy into her 11 years of editing. Deniz is also interested in street art and has been doing rapidography and illustrations for a long time. She has raced in race courses and rallies. She raced as a fully licensed rally pilot in Europe and as second factory team in the Turkey championship.
Her daughter Begum Berdan gained upper second class honors by completing BA Costume For Performance at London College of Fashion in 2015. Before that, she had completed foundation at Central Saint Martins. She loves working with the movement and enjoy combining historical figures with underground cultures and contemporary art.
