As Part of their AW19 Collection the brand explores the issue of double standards within the fashion industry, regarding the treating the LGBTQ people as token characters, as trophy’s or spectacles to be observed and celebrated within that world. This almost royal like admiration however isn’t something that is extended into mainstream society where in many cases LGBTQ people fill face animosity and mistreatment for merely being themselves. For their AW19 collection, DB Berdan wanted to create a safe space for their Queer family. They want every individual to feel comfortable, included but most importantly, feel safe. The collection continues to ramp up the 90’s silhouettes and turns them into combat style ready to wear pieces, a symbolism of a coat of armour ready to fight the prejudices and negativities that may face the wearer. Key pieces this season include oversized raver pants, aluminium foil like puffa coats, pin stiped denim racer joggers, tartan trench coats and textured collage style knitted pieces. Key Fabrics and colours used this season include distressed two tones denims, raw edges and earthy tones such as burgundy, army green, light brown and contrasting the prints in neon colours. DB Berdan uses safe space symbols referencing WWII, transforming historic imagery into fabulous victories. The brand’s playful style is evident across the garments as their personality is fully showcased and explored.
