Mehtap Elaidi’s SS20 collection #journeyME provides the perfect wardrobe for a summer city getaway. With Istanbul’s Princes’ Islands as the main inspiration the design team crafted a collection with a focus on cottons and linens. Mehtap Elaidi’s trademark use of cotton is accompanied by embroidered scalloped edges. Feminine silhouettes are given thicker fabrics with volume to create an ironic contrast that the ME Woman has come to expect. Fringe details are expertly incorporated into cuts sometimes to create a contrast with a flowy fabric and sometimes to add a fun component to a tailored item. Bold stripes are accompanied with a minimal flower print and an Istanbul inspired city print. Different prints and colors of red, blue, olive, light brown, beige, off-white and pink are used together to create color blocked items which in the end brings the whole collection together by creating a fluid transition between the items through that mixture. The collection consists of items that can carry the ME Woman from the city to island, from the beach to a summer dinner, from the house to the local coffee shop and it is the brand’s ode to its hometown of Istanbul and its island culture.
